What is the difference between Skimming and Plastering?
Skimming and plastering are both techniques for finishing walls, but they serve different purposes. Skimming involves applying a thin, 2-3 mm layer of plaster over an existing surface to smooth out imperfections, making it ideal for refreshing walls quickly before painting or wallpapering. It typically dries within 1-2 days.
Plastering, however, is used for new or severely damaged surfaces. It involves applying multiple layers of plaster, starting with a thicker base coat (10-15 mm) and finishing with a thinner top coat, providing a durable and smooth finish. The base coats can take 5-8 days to dry, while finishing coats dry in 1-2 days.
